The Washington Wizards had a stroke of good fortune in this year’s NBA draft.
In an unusual turn, top prospect Alex Sarr maneuvered his way out of the number one pick, deciding against working out for the Atlanta Hawks. This allowed the Wizards to eagerly scoop him up with the second overall pick.
The French center wasted no time demonstrating his prowess on the court during his Summer League debut. Sarr had a standout performance against the Hawks, impressing with 12 points, seven rebounds, four assists, one steal, and an impressive four blocks.
The highlight of his debut was a sequence where he blocked two consecutive shots, a moment that quickly spread across social media, heralding his arrival in the NBA.
While Sarr’s offensive skills are currently seen as raw, mainly showcasing his capability through powerful dunks, lobs, and putbacks, he is also working to widen his range and develop a shooting touch. His defensive skills, however, are where he shines brightest. Sarr’s quick instincts and ability to move laterally make him a formidable opponent in defensive matchups and his natural shot-blocking talent positions him as a potential leader in the league, rivaling fellow French player Victor Wembanyama.
France continues to make its mark in the NBA by producing exceptional rim protectors. Sarr’s arrival follows a trend of top-tier French big men impacting the league, emphasizing their ongoing ability to develop unique talents in the sport.
